Waiting for More

Having invited ourselves to the party, so to speak, we have been incredibly humbled at the positive attention our debut novel has received. It was difficult to release the novel JJ Cook and I had worked on together over seven years. Putting in the time whenever we could spare it, we finished our novel, about a global pandemic, just as a real one took place. It was a little scary to send our baby out into the world and then just sit back to see what would happen. As we held our breath, the reviews started to come in and to be honest it left us both amazed. We are so very grateful to the people who have helped us reach some of the most influential review sources. The fact that the reviews have been consistently positive not only encourages us with the next volume of the trilogy, but it also justifies the hours we invested in something we are both very passionate about and love doing together.

One of the highlights has been our Kirkus review. To read these words describing Percivious Insomnia from one of the most trusted review sources in the industry not only strengthens our commitment to continue writing but it leaves us both astounded at the welcome we have received as newcomers.

“Disparate strands and players take time to come together in the authors’ double(maybe triple?) helix weave of international locales and capers. While the material is related in Dan Brown–esque minichapters, the emphasis is less on exciting chases (though there is a humdinger, set in Paris) and more on deep dives into character motivations and relationships, complete with a shoutout to The Great Gatsby. Results echo both Zenna Henderson’s The People collections and John Farris’ Fury series as well as numerous other upscale SF entries in which superman-hood does not necessarily mean capes and Kryptonite or flashy special effects. This segment wraps up with most of the narrative strands disconnected, and invested readers will be kept up at night waiting for more.” Kirkus Reviews
